Public sculpture installation by visiting German artist Mo Flodin, Maker Faire Scrapyard Challenge with Jonah Brucker-Cohen, Trash Fashion Show with Sonya Darrow and Alisabeth Caraway and much more! All events will take place in the New Bohemia Arts and Entertainment District, 3rd Street SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Reception Speakers Congratulate and Praise NCSML

During the reception several speakers from the state of Iowa and the Cedar Rapids area congratulated the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library for their success in raising $25 million. Closing the gap on the capital campaign goal occurred when the last dollar was raised to meet the $3 million matching grant from The Hall-Perrine Foundation, which challenged the museum & library to raise $6 million. Groundbreaking Celebrates Major Milestone

During a ground breaking ceremony today, the board of directors of the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library (NCSML) announced they have met a major milestone in the recovery and rebirth of the museum campus following the June 2008 flood devastation. Thanks to generous funding from the State of Iowa, individuals and businesses in the Cedar Rapids area, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) public assistance, and national and international donors, the NCSML reached its capital fund raising goal of $25 million, allowing the museum to break ground today at the site of the new museum and library. Czech Village historic nomination moves to federal level without neighboring homes

Czech Village will become part of a historic district in Cedar Rapids, but not the residential neighborhood next to the business strip. The State Nominations Review Committee voted unanimously Friday, Oct. 8, to forward the nomination to the National Park Service for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places. Read more….
